Hope you all had a great weekend! I’m still in L.A., soaking up every minute since it’s the last day of my trip! And although I’m sitting in the California atmosphere, I’m taking you all back to Kentucky in today’s post!
Last week, I went to Maker’s Mark, with one of my best friends! This is something I’ve had on my bucketlist for quite some time! Believe it or not, I had never been to a bourbon distillery til this! It’s common for people to associate Kentucky with the Bourbon trail and ppl always ask me, “Oh, what distilleries do you recommend?” I normally deflect the answer with a winery in Illinois, but now I can at least say I’ve visited one of them! After seeing Maker’s Mark I told my friend, Rachel, I want to do the bourbon trail! Maybe go on a weekend getaway/couples trip and go tour some of the distilleries famous in Kentucky! A lot of ppl travel from all over to go on the trail and indulge in the bourbon experience! One of these days, that’s going to be me! Until then, here’s some more on our trip to Maker’s…
Rachel asked me a while back if I wanted to be her +1 on this day trip and I immediately said of course! Right before we left, we had some bad luck.. For starters my romper zipper got stuck and ended up ripping all the way down. As we are literally walking out the door to leave, we decided we would just have to staple the romper so it wasn’t open in the back. (Insert laughing emoji). As we fixed my wardrobe, left the store, and went to get on the bus, we realized the A.C. was broken…. Here we are, 10 minutes into our trip, with a romper split open and sweat pouring down our faces! However, we made the best of it! And when I say, “we made the best of it”, I literally mean we made the best of it!
Our bus ride to Maker’s was actually one of the best parts of our trip! We got to sip on some bourbon, catch up, and chat! When we got to Maker’s we were immediately handed a cocktail, followed by name tags, and group #’s! Shortly after our tour started! Not going to lie, Rach and I kind of wondered off on our own throughout the tour.. we were scouting out the barrels and pictures spots! haha! Then towards the end we joined the group just in time to see the production line and dip our own bottles!
Dipping our own, waxed bottles was the highlight of our day! It’s all we talked about!
If you ever get the opportunity to visit Maker’s, make sure you head to the gift shop to dip your own! The red wax seal is a staple of Maker’s and having your own is so cool! If you’re into a bourbon and truly enjoy the taste of it, I highly suggest taking a tour around Maker’s! It’s so neat to see where they store all the bourbons and the process it goes through!
Also, if you’re looking for something to do or planning a small weekend get away, you should consider going on the bourbon trail! These are the distilleries that are apart of it:
- Angel’s Envy
- Evan Williams
- Four Roses
- Heaven Hill
- Jim Beam
- Lux Row
- Maker’s Mark
- Old Forester
- O.Z. Tyler
- Town Branch
- Wild Turkey
- Woodford Reserve
Clint loves Woodford, so that might be our next stop! If you all know any good distilleries or fun wineries, send them my way! I love recommendations!
